A group of 17 young footballers from Sikkim had a memorable experience playing football with Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his recent visit to Gangtok. The players, hailing from various parts of the state, engaged in a friendly match and informal discussions with the Prime Minister on sports, fitness, and youth development.
Expressing their gratitude, footballer Prekila Tamang mentioned that playing with PM Modi was an honor and a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for them. Another player, Gyurmi Tamang, praised the Khelo India scheme for its benefits in promoting sports among youth, categorizing them into different age groups for competitions.
The players, including Ishan Majhi and Deepen Rai, appreciated the opportunities provided by the Prime Minister and Chief Minister to enhance their skills and aspire to represent India at the Olympics. They thanked the authorities for organizing the friendly match and acknowledged the government’s support through initiatives like the Khelo India Programme.
Sherin Lepcha expressed gratitude for the chance to interact with the Prime Minister, highlighting the government’s schemes like Khelo India that aim to empower and motivate the youth. The footballers described the interaction as warm and informal, marking it as a proud moment in their sporting journey.
