The State Election Commission of Sikkim has announced that elections for Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) will be held on April 24, with polling from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Counting of votes and result declaration are set for April 25, and the current elected representatives’ term will end on May 5.

State Election Commissioner KC Lepcha stated that the election process commenced with the notification issued on March 23. Nomination filing will continue until March 30, followed by scrutiny on April 1, with the last date for withdrawal of candidature set as April 4. The Model Code of Conduct is now in effect.

Lepcha emphasized that the elections will be conducted fairly and without inducements. Preparations have been finalized in collaboration with district administrations and election officials, with consultations held with political parties.

According to the Commission, a total of 63 wards in urban bodies will participate in the polls, encompassing 93,697 voters, including 47,170 males and 46,527 females. The electorate has grown by 14.5%, and the number of wards has increased by 23% due to delimitation.
