The sit-in protest led by the Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC) inside Huda jail in Quetta, Balochistan, has reached its sixth consecutive day. The BYC has criticized the judicial proceedings as unfair and faceless, alleging violations of transparent justice principles. The protest, initiated in rejection of a faceless court decision, has garnered support from various sectors during its ongoing three-day online protest.
The BYC has urged the people of Balochistan, along with political activists, students, lawyers, intellectuals, and human rights advocates, to continue opposing faceless trials. It has raised concerns that such practices create a coercive environment, emphasizing the need for a fair legal system that upholds human rights. The organization has accused Pakistan’s judicial system of operating under military influence, applying different standards for the elite and ordinary citizens.
According to the BYC, the Baloch community faces severe repercussions under the current judicial system, including extrajudicial killings, arbitrary arrests, violations of privacy, and mistreatment of Baloch women. The organization highlighted the unjust detention of its leaders, like Mahrang Baloch, for baseless charges over the past fourteen months. Additionally, it pointed out the forced disappearance of five Baloch women, condemning such actions as a violation of international and national laws.
