As the sit-in protest by leaders of the human rights body Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC) in Huda jail, Quetta, continues, the BYC expresses worry about the health and safety of the detained leaders. The protest, now in its ninth day, is against unfair judicial proceedings and faceless trials, according to BYC leaders like Mahrang Baloch and others.
The BYC leaders are protesting against the lack of transparency in court proceedings and the denial of their legal rights. They have been enduring extreme weather conditions and lack of basic facilities during the protest. The detainees are demanding fair trials and the restoration of their legal rights through this peaceful demonstration.
Mahrang Baloch, in a statement from Huda Jail, shared that their cases were being transferred to faceless trials without consent, leading to the ongoing sit-in protest. The protest aims to ensure that their cases are heard in open court and to request the transfer of Judge Muhammad Ali Mubeen from Pakistan’s Anti-Terrorism Court. The detainees are concerned that faceless trials restrict their rights and the recent amendments to the Anti-Terrorism Act have worsened the situation.
