The Special Investigation Team (SIT) investigating the Sabarimala gold theft case is intensifying its inquiry by summoning UDF convener and Congress MP Adoor Prakash. Prakash is called to explain his alleged connection with the main suspect, Unnikrishnan Potti. The SIT aims to clarify the nature of their relationship, including details of a trip to Delhi taken by Prakash and Potti.
Prakash expressed ignorance when approached by the media about his appearance before the SIT, indicating he had not received any notice. Pictures of Potti with Congress Parliamentary Party Chairperson Sonia Gandhi were circulated on social media to counter the narrative of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan being associated with Potti. On the same day, Potti and two other suspects were interrogated by the probe team.
The SIT plans to compare Potti’s statement with the testimony given by senior CPI-M legislator Kadakampally Surendran. The investigation is focusing on uncovering a potential larger conspiracy behind the theft of gold plates related to Sabarimala. The team is exploring whether individuals with significant political or institutional ties were involved in aiding or protecting the perpetrators.
The ongoing probe has led to the imprisonment of ten individuals, including three prominent CPI-M leaders. The SIT has hinted at further questioning and summons as the investigation progresses, based on the evidence and statements gathered.
