Six American service members have lost their lives in action as US forces engage in significant combat operations against Iran, according to the US Central Command. The command stated that these casualties occurred as part of ongoing military actions against Iran and that the remains of two service members previously unaccounted for have been recovered.
The identities of the deceased are being withheld until 24 hours after their next of kin have been notified, CENTCOM mentioned. Operation Epic Fury, which involves a substantial concentration of American military power, was initiated on February 28, 2026, at the direction of the US President. This operation is being carried out in the CENTCOM Area of Responsibility, with targets situated in Iran.
US forces are actively targeting locations to dismantle the security apparatus of the Iranian regime, focusing on areas deemed to pose an immediate threat, as per a fact sheet released by the command. Within the first 48 hours of the operation, over 1,250 targets have been struck. Various assets, including bombers, fighter jets, missile systems, aircraft carriers, and drones, have been deployed for this mission.
The targets being struck include key Iranian military installations such as Command and Control Centers, IRGC Joint Headquarters, Ballistic Missile Sites, and Iranian Navy Ships. CENTCOM also highlighted the continuous support provided by multiple squadrons of F/A-18s for sustained operations against Iran, emphasizing the round-the-clock efforts of US forces to deliver substantial firepower.
In a separate update, CENTCOM announced that Iran no longer maintains a naval presence in the Gulf of Oman. Just two days prior, Iran had 11 ships in the region, but currently, there are none. This development marks a shift in the Iranian regime’s naval activities, particularly in the Gulf of Oman, where they have been known to disrupt international shipping. The US reaffirmed its commitment to defending freedom of maritime navigation in the region to uphold global economic stability.
