Biswajit Poddar, known as Sona Pappu, showed up at the Enforcement Directorate (ED) office in Salt Lake’s CGO Complex in Kolkata on Monday after being missing for months in connection with a syndicate case. Pappu, implicated in the Rabindra Sarovar incident last February, had eluded authorities despite occasional social media appearances. The ED had previously raided his residence as part of the syndicate case investigation.
When questioned about his fear of arrest upon entering the ED office, Pappu confidently stated that he had not committed any wrongdoing. Pappu’s involvement in the February clash at Rabindra Sarovar led to the ED searching his house in April, resulting in the recovery of approximately Rs 2 crore along with an expensive car and property documents.
ED sources disclosed that multiple FIRs have been lodged against Pappu, accusing him of offenses such as extortion, land grabbing, and making threats. The ED alleges that Pappu oversees various syndicates in Kasba and Ballygunge areas of south Kolkata. Additionally, Pappu faces charges under the Arms Act, prompting the ED to launch a thorough investigation into the allegations.
Authorities had suspected that Pappu had fled to another state due to his prolonged absence, possibly receiving money through hawala channels while in hiding. The recent appearance of Pappu has raised questions about his potential arrest in the ongoing syndicate case.
