Bollywood actress Sonam Kapoor recently marked the 10th anniversary of her acclaimed movie Neerja. Reflecting on her portrayal of courageous flight attendant Neerja Bhanot, Kapoor expressed gratitude for the enduring love the film receives. Directed by Ram Madhvani, the movie also features Shekhar Ravjiani, Shabana Azmi, Yogendra Tiku, Kavi Shastri, and Jim Sarbh in supporting roles.
Sonam Kapoor shared snippets from the 2016 film on her Instagram Stories with a caption that read, “10 years of Neerja,” commemorating the milestone. Neerja is based on the real-life incident of the attempted hijacking of Pan Am Flight 73 in Karachi, Pakistan in 1986. The film portrays the heroic actions of Neerja Bhanot, the head purser, who foiled the hijack attempt by alerting the pilots, saving the passengers and crew.
Neerja received critical acclaim and won two awards at the 64th National Film Awards for Best Feature Film in Hindi and a Special Mention. Sonam Kapoor, daughter of Bollywood star Anil Kapoor, began her career as an assistant director in 2005 and made her acting debut in 2007 with Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Saawariya. She has since appeared in various films like Blind, I Hate Luv Storys, Raanjhanaa, Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, Sanju, Prem Ratan Dhan Payo, and Veere Di Wedding.
