After climate activist Sonam Wangchuk’s health deteriorated due to a hunger strike, he was moved to Safdarjung Hospital. His wife, Gitanjali J. Angmo, urged the hospital to quickly complete discharge formalities so that Wangchuk can be transferred to a medical facility chosen by the family. She expressed concerns about the lack of transparency in his treatment.
Angmo, in a letter to the hospital, emphasized the need for sharing Wangchuk’s medical reports and criticized the alleged lack of transparency. She highlighted discrepancies in his potassium levels and stated that the medical team had refused to provide the reports. Angmo also mentioned that the treating doctors were not allowed to meet Wangchuk, further eroding their trust in the hospital.
In a previous communication, Angmo had instructed the hospital not to administer any treatment to Wangchuk without her consent. She also demanded transparent sharing of medical reports to ensure clarity on the tests conducted. Wangchuk had been on a hunger strike for 20 days at Jantar Mantar before being hospitalized.
Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) has been leading protests at Jantar Mantar, demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over the NEET paper leak. Police intervened this morning, moving Wangchuk to the hospital amidst protests by CJP activists and the public.
