Soorma Hockey Club (SHC) has confirmed that the same on-field leaders will continue to guide both its men’s and women’s teams in the upcoming Hockey India League editions. Harmanpreet Singh, a seasoned player, will lead the men’s team, while Savita Punia and Salima Tete will co-captain the women’s team.
Harmanpreet Singh’s exceptional defensive skills and drag-flicking prowess have been crucial for the men’s team, which secured third place in the previous Hockey India League. As the captain of the Indian National Hockey Team, he has led the country to various significant achievements, including medals at the Olympics and Asian Games.
Savita Punia’s sharp reflexes and composure, along with Salima Tete’s agility and creativity, are the backbone of the women’s team. Together, they played a vital role in leading the squad to a strong runners-up finish in the last season’s closely contested league.
The women’s team of Soorma Hockey Club will start their campaign on December 29 against Shrachi Rarh Bengal Tigers, with all matches scheduled at the Marang Gomke Jaipal Singh Munda Astro Turf Stadium in Ranchi. The men’s team will also face Shrachi Rarh Bengal Tigers, the defending champions, on January 4 at the Mayor Radhakrishnan Hockey Stadium in Chennai.
Under the guidance of Head Coaches Philippe Goldberg and Jude Menezes, and with strong leadership on the field, SHC aims to compete fiercely and strive for top honors in both the men’s and women’s competitions this season.
