Former Indian cricket captain Sourav Ganguly’s entry into the ICC Hall of Fame has garnered praise from prominent figures in Indian cricket. Ganguly, the 12th Indian cricketer to receive this prestigious honor, was recognized during the ICC’s annual conference in Edinburgh, coinciding with his 54th birthday, marking a significant milestone in his cricketing career.
Among those congratulating Ganguly was former Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh, who expressed his happiness at the announcement. Yuvraj Singh, a key member of Ganguly’s team in the early 2000s, lauded the former captain’s impact on Indian cricket, highlighting his leadership and the lasting influence he had on players of that era.
Sachin Tendulkar, Ganguly’s long-time opening partner, also extended his congratulations, emphasizing the lack of surprise at Ganguly’s induction. Ganguly, in response, expressed his gratitude for the recognition, particularly cherishing the acknowledgment from Tendulkar, whom he holds in high regard. Currently serving as the president of the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB), Ganguly joins a select group of Indian cricketing legends in the ICC Hall of Fame.
Ganguly, renowned for his leadership and batting prowess, played a significant role in shaping Indian cricket during the early 2000s. With an impressive record in both Test and One-Day International formats, he not only excelled with the bat but also instilled a sense of fearlessness in the team, guiding them to the 2003 ODI World Cup final.
