South Africa has named Kayla Reyneke, the former under-19 captain, in their T20I squad for the upcoming women’s white-ball series against Pakistan from February 10 to March 1. Reyneke, aged 20, who plays for Western Province in domestic cricket, led South Africa to a runners-up finish in the 2025 Women’s U19 T20 World Cup. She joins a squad led by Laura Wolvaardt, including experienced players like Marizanne Kapp and Chloe Tryon.
The T20I series against Pakistan holds significant importance for South Africa as they prepare for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 in England. The selectors emphasized that Reyneke’s selection acknowledges her consistent progress and potential at the international level. The series is crucial for the team’s build-up to the T20 World Cup and the new IWC cycle.
South Africa’s ODI squad, gearing up for the Proteas’ ICC Women’s Championship cycle, will witness four changes, with Lara Goodall, Faye Tunnicliffe, Nondumiso Shangase, and Tumi Sekhukhune coming in. The team, under head coach Mandla Mashimbyi, is optimistic about the upcoming tours against New Zealand and India after a successful end to 2025. The Proteas are determined to maintain and enhance their performances from the previous year.
The South African squads will convene in Potchefstroom on February 5 for the T20Is scheduled from February 10-16, followed by the ODIs on February 22 and 25, and the Black Day fixture in Durban on March 1.
