The South African Consul in India marked 32 years of South Africa’s freedom, coinciding with 30 years of its Constitution, in Mumbai. The Consul General of South Africa in Mumbai, Gideon Labane, described the event as a public diplomacy platform to showcase South Africa’s bilateral relations with India and promote trade and investment. He highlighted the growing political and investment ties between India and South Africa, with over 100 Indian companies investing in South Africa and vice versa.
Relations between the two countries are flourishing in various aspects such as politics, trade, cricket, culture, and cinema. The Consul General praised PM Modi’s interest in Africa and the opening of several embassies on the continent. He mentioned upcoming events like the BRICS foreign ministers’ meeting and the India-Africa summit, expressing hope for strong growth in the relationship.
The Consul emphasized the importance of dialogue in resolving conflicts, stating that war is not the solution. He expressed concerns about regional issues impacting oil supply and causing price inflation. Advocating for peaceful resolutions, he called for all parties to come together, discuss, and find ways to coexist peacefully.
