Left-arm fast-bowling all-rounder Marco Janse’s impressive 4-22 helped South Africa secure a 76-run victory over India in the Men’s T20 World Cup Super Eights match at the Narendra Modi Stadium. Despite a slow start, South Africa’s David Miller and Dewald Brevis staged a strong recovery, with Miller scoring 63 off 35 balls and Brevis contributing 45 to set a total of 187/7.
India’s Jasprit Bumrah’s 3-15 and Arshdeep Singh’s 2-28 were notable performances, but South Africa’s counterattack proved challenging for the rest of India’s bowling attack. India struggled in their chase, falling to 51/5, with Shivam Dube’s 42 not being enough as they were eventually bowled out for 111 in 18.5 overs.
In the match, opener Ishan Kishan’s failure to score marked his 2nd duck in 41 T20Is, with India posting their lowest powerplay score of 31/3 in the current World Cup. India’s opening pairs have averaged 6.8 in the tournament, and this defeat ended their streak of 12 consecutive victories in the T20WC.
David Miller’s 63 was his 9th half-century in 137 T20Is and his highest score in the T20WC, marking his 3rd fifty in 31 World Cup matches. South Africa’s 76-run victory over India was India’s biggest defeat by runs in the T20WC, with India recording their 3rd lowest total of 111 in the tournament.
