Senior defense officials from South Korea and the United States met in Seoul to enhance their joint sustainment capabilities. The talks between Koo Sang-mo of South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff and Mark Simerly from the US Defence Logistics Agency focused on deepening cooperation based on their strong alliance. They emphasized the importance of sustainment operations in adapting to evolving security challenges.
Both officials highlighted the critical role of logistics support in maintaining their combined defense posture. Koo stressed the essential nature of collaboration with the DLA for immediate military support during contingencies. Simerly reiterated the US commitment to supply chain management in the Indo-Pacific region to protect South Korea as a key ally.
The meeting concluded with an agreement to expand communication and cooperation between the two organizations. Simerly’s visit to South Korea aimed at assessing defense logistics for the US Forces Korea and enhancing their joint logistics capabilities. This visit marked the first time a DLA director visited South Korea, underscoring the significance of the discussions.
South Korea and the US recently reaffirmed their cooperation on civil nuclear power, nuclear-powered submarines, and shipbuilding. The two countries are committed to the complete denuclearization of North Korea. Discussions between South Korea’s Foreign Minister Cho Hyun and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio also focused on strengthening the US-ROK Alliance and enhancing bilateral investments in critical industries.
