South Korean President Lee Jae Myung and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni are scheduled to have summit talks focusing on trade, investment, and advanced technologies like artificial intelligence. Meloni’s visit to South Korea is part of her three-day official trip to Asia, which also includes stops in Japan and Oman.
During the meeting, the leaders plan to explore enhancing collaboration in various areas such as trade, investment, artificial intelligence, defense, and semiconductors. This summit will be their second meeting following their initial encounter at the UN General Assembly in New York last September.
This visit by Meloni marks the first time in 19 years that an Italian leader has engaged in bilateral summit discussions in Seoul. Italy stands as South Korea’s fourth-largest trading partner within the European Union and attracts around 1 million South Korean visitors annually.
Last year in September, Lee Jae Myung and Giorgia Meloni met at the UN General Assembly to discuss strengthening bilateral cooperation, particularly in artificial intelligence and defense. Both leaders acknowledged the importance of deepening mutually beneficial ties and recognized the potential for further economic collaboration.
Meloni expressed her interest in advancing practical cooperation and extended an invitation for Lee to visit Italy, emphasizing the constructive roles both countries play on the global stage amid complex challenges. They agreed to deepen their cooperation further to address international issues effectively.
