South Korean President Lee Jae Myung has left Belgium for Italy, the next stop on his European visit. During his time in Belgium, he held discussions with Prime Minister Bart De Wever and met with EU leaders Ursula von der Leyen and Antonio Luis Santos da Costa. Lee and De Wever agreed to boost investment in advanced sectors like batteries and materials, aiming to strengthen market access for businesses in both countries.
Lee’s visit to Belgium marks the beginning of a 10-day trip, coinciding with the 125th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Seoul and Brussels. In a meeting with EU leaders, they criticized the alleged military cooperation between North Korea and Russia, calling for compliance with UN Security Council resolutions. Both parties also signed an agreement to initiate talks on an information security pact to enhance security cooperation.
In Italy, President Lee is set to meet with President Sergio Mattarella and Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. Following his Italian visit, he will travel to the Vatican for a meeting with Pope Leo XIV before attending the G7 summit in France, where global leaders such as US President Donald Trump and Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi will be present.
