South Korean President Lee Jae Myung is set to embark on a five-nation tour this week, with visits planned to three South American countries for discussions with their leaders. The trip will kick off in San Francisco, where President Lee will engage in a two-day meeting with top tech executives, such as OpenAI’s CEO Sam Altman and Nvidia’s chief Jensen Huang. The focus of these interactions will be on highlighting South Korea’s dedication to AI investment and fostering global cooperation in this field.
President Lee will also participate in a significant AI gathering in San Francisco, bringing together key figures like Altman, Huang, and other tech leaders with prominent South Korean business heads, including Samsung Electronics Co. Chairman Lee Jae-yong and SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won. The event will center on discussions related to the Lee administration’s initiatives in semiconductor production and AI infrastructure, with various agreements anticipated between South Korean and international companies. Additionally, President Lee will unveil a “San Francisco AI declaration,” outlining South Korea’s aspirations to lead in AI and strengthen worldwide collaboration in this domain.
Following his time in San Francisco, President Lee will head to Brazil for a state visit with President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, followed by visits to Chile and Argentina for summit talks with their respective leaders, President Jose Antonio Kast and President Javier Milei. The aim of these visits to South America is to bolster trade and investment ties between the regions while enhancing South Korea’s diplomatic presence in South America. The tour will conclude in Frankfurt, Germany, where President Lee will meet with South Korean residents before returning home on August 3.
