South Korean President Lee Jae Myung cautioned against excessive labour demands from unions, warning that such actions could harm not only the unions but also fellow workers. Lee emphasized the importance of responsibility and solidarity among workers while addressing the need for a balanced approach in dealing with labour issues. The President’s remarks come as a major labour union at Samsung Electronics Co. threatens an 18-day strike for higher bonuses.
Lee highlighted the significance of cooperation and coexistence in facing the challenges posed by the transition to artificial intelligence in the labour and industrial sectors. He stressed the necessity of fostering a society where workers and the public can coexist harmoniously. Additionally, Lee marked this year’s Labour Day observance by emphasizing the importance of reducing labour market disparities and ensuring workplace safety.
The President also expressed concerns over potential consumer price increases following a sharp rise in producer prices, urging officials to take proactive measures to stabilize consumer prices. Lee specifically pointed out the need for effective price stabilization measures in areas such as agricultural, livestock, and fishery products, as well as logistics costs.
