South Korean Prime Minister Kim Min-seok visited the Army’s 9th Infantry Division of Baekma near the inter-Korean border to assess defense readiness and boost troop morale. Kim expressed gratitude to the soldiers for their service, emphasizing the importance of their role in safeguarding the nation and enabling normal daily life for the people. He also encouraged the troops to uphold a strong sense of duty to the country and envision their future contributions to society post their military service.
During the visit, Kim climbed a guard post to observe North Korea and inspected the military readiness along the border. This inspection aligns with South Korea’s focus on incorporating advanced technologies like artificial intelligence (AI) for enhanced surveillance operations in border regions. Defense Minister Ahn Gyu-back emphasized the significance of implementing AI-based surveillance systems to strengthen the military’s capabilities and efficiency in safeguarding the nation.
Ahn highlighted the potential of AI systems in restructuring troop resources to concentrate on operating advanced weapon systems and enhancing combat training programs. The military’s strategic shift towards high-tech solutions aims to address challenges related to future warfare scenarios and the constraints of diminishing troop resources. Additionally, Ahn pledged to prioritize improving the working conditions for soldiers as a critical defense agenda that demands immediate attention.
