South Korea’s Defence Minister Ahn Gyu-back is set to travel to Singapore this week to participate in the 23rd Asia Security Summit, known as the Shangri-La Dialogue. The summit, scheduled from Friday to Sunday, will see Ahn alongside defense ministers from key nations like the United States, Japan, and other European and Indo-Pacific partners. Ahn is slated to address the plenary session, focusing on South Korea’s defense policy amidst evolving security challenges.
During the summit, Ahn will engage in bilateral discussions with counterparts from Japan, Australia, Norway, the Philippines, and Thailand to deliberate on mutual security concerns and enhance defense collaboration. Additionally, Ahn is scheduled to meet with members of the US House and Senate attending the forum. The Shangri-La Dialogue, initiated in 2002, acts as a crucial platform for top defense and military officials to exchange views on security landscapes in the Indo-Pacific and globally.
Hosted by the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS) in Singapore, the Shangri-La Dialogue brings together defense ministers, military leaders, and strategic experts from over 40 countries to address significant security challenges in the Indo-Pacific region. This annual summit facilitates open plenary debates and private bilateral meetings to address regional tensions effectively.
