English football club Southampton has finalized the permanent signing of goalkeeper Daniel Peretz from Bayern Munich. Peretz, the Israel international, has inked a four-year contract with Southampton after an impressive loan stint with the team. The 25-year-old initially joined Southampton on loan from Bayern in January and swiftly became a pivotal player in the squad. He played a crucial role in the team’s 21-match unbeaten streak in the Sky Bet Championship, significantly enhancing their defensive performance under manager Tonda Eckert.
Peretz, during this remarkable run, managed to secure eight clean sheets and delivered standout displays, notably against Premier League teams like Fulham, Arsenal, and Manchester City as Southampton advanced to the FA Cup semi-finals. Across all competitions, Peretz made 26 appearances following his mid-season arrival and experienced defeat only twice by the end of the campaign. Expressing his joy after the transfer, Peretz stated that he is thrilled to make Southampton his permanent home.
“I’m super excited. For the last few months, this was my home, and we had so many good times, and also some tense times, but even in the last few weeks with how we stayed together you could really feel this home environment,” Peretz mentioned in a statement released by the club. He emphasized his dream of playing in the Premier League and on the global stage, highlighting his belief in Southampton’s potential to achieve great things. Peretz kickstarted his career at Maccabi Tel Aviv, amassing over 100 appearances for the Israeli club before securing a move to Bayern Munich.
Southampton Group Technical Director Johannes Spors expressed satisfaction with the deal’s completion, lauding Peretz’s skill and dedication to the club. Spors commended Peretz’s impact on the team, noting his confidence in his abilities that resonated with his teammates. The club official revealed that despite other options available, Peretz showcased unwavering commitment to Southampton, leading to his return on a long-term contract. The permanent addition of Peretz is anticipated to provide a significant boost to Southampton as they gear up for the upcoming Championship campaign, aiming to secure a Premier League return.
