The Southwest Monsoon has reached Telangana, as confirmed by the IMD, with forecasts predicting light to moderate rainfall in the state for the next three days. The monsoon’s entry into Jogulamba Gadwal district in southern Telangana marks its advancement into various regions of the Arabian Sea, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, and parts of Telangana. Favorable conditions are anticipated for its further progress into more areas over the next 2–3 days, including central Arabian Sea, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, and regions of the Bay of Bengal, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, West Bengal, Sikkim, and Northeastern states.
Conditions are conducive for light to moderate rain in isolated places in certain districts of Telangana from Monday to Wednesday, with no significant change in maximum temperatures expected over this period. Some southern and eastern districts may experience isolated heavy rains, accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds of 40–50 kmph. Hyderabad is likely to witness light to moderate rain or thundershowers, with gusty winds in the evening or night on Monday, with temperatures hovering around 37 degrees Celsius and 25 degrees Celsius for maximum and minimum, respectively.
Recent reports indicate heavy rainfall in Suryapet and Rangareddy districts, with Mattampalle in Suryapet recording the highest rainfall at 88.5 mm. The average state rainfall for the day was 4.2 mm, slightly above the normal of 3.7 mm. The Southwest Monsoon season, spanning from June to September, contributes significantly to Telangana’s annual normal rainfall of 923.8 mm, with about 80% of this rainfall occurring during this season.
