Spain’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Union, and Cooperation, Jose Manuel Albares, is set to begin a two-day official visit to India, starting with his arrival in New Delhi on Tuesday. Albares is scheduled to meet with India’s External Affairs Minister (EAM) S Jaishankar at Hyderabad House on Wednesday. Following this, he will also have a meeting with President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan in Delhi.
During the 8th round of Foreign Office Consultations held on November 13 last year, India and Spain, represented by Secretary (West) at the Ministry of External Affairs Sibi George and Spain’s Secretary of State for Foreign and Global Affairs Diego Martinez Belio, reviewed their bilateral ties comprehensively. The discussions included various aspects of their relationship, particularly in the context of the upcoming India-Spain Year of Culture, Tourism, and Artificial Intelligence. Both sides also shared their views on regional and global issues, emphasizing the joint fight against terrorism.
In October 2025, EAM Jaishankar conveyed his best wishes to Spain’s Foreign Minister Albares and the people of Spain on their National Day, reaffirming India’s commitment to strengthening their ties. The Foreign Ministers engaged in a telephonic conversation in May last year, where they discussed India’s resolute stance against cross-border terrorism, following the launch of ‘Operation Sindoor’ by the Indian armed forces in response to a terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam.
