Sri Lanka has revealed a 16-member squad for the upcoming three-match T20I series against England, focusing on refining team combinations before the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 starting on February 7. Dasun Shanaka will lead the team, with the series commencing on January 30 at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium.
The squad maintains continuity by retaining key players after recent T20 assignments to strengthen their preparations for the ICC T20 World Cup. Both teams see this series as a crucial opportunity to assess form, fitness, and tactical strategies in match scenarios, serving as vital preparation for the upcoming global event.
In preparation for the series against England, Sri Lanka has bolstered its squad by adding Kusal Janith Perera, Eshan Malinga, and Dushmantha Chameera, who missed the ODI series against England. Perera’s inclusion at the top order brings experience and aggression, while Chameera adds depth to the pace attack alongside Matheesha Pathirana and Pramod Madushan. Eshan Malinga aims to showcase his potential as an emerging fast bowler in this high-profile series.
The Sri Lankan batting lineup combines stability and flair, with players like Pathum Nissanka, Kusal Mendis, Charith Asalanka, and Dhananjaya de Silva expected to lay strong foundations. Janith Liyanage, Kamil Mishara, and Pavan Rathnayake will further bolster the team’s batting strength. Sri Lanka’s spin department, featuring Wanindu Hasaranga, Maheesh Theekshana, and Dunith Wellalage, will provide diversity and control during the middle overs.
The series kicks off at Pallekele on January 30, followed by matches on February 1 and February 3, offering Sri Lanka valuable practice to fine-tune their T20 strategies before the World Cup begins.
