Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has stated that players must undergo mandatory physical performance tests before being allowed to play in the 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL). Pathum Nissanka, Kamindu Mendis, and Dushmantha Chameera have already received their No Objection Certificates (NOCs). Other players like Wanindu Hasaranga, Matheesha Pathirana, Nuwan Thushara, and Eshan Malinga will need to clear fitness tests before joining their IPL teams, likely in the upcoming week.
Only those meeting the required physical performance standards will be permitted to participate in the ongoing domestic tournament and receive an NOC for IPL 2026. Chameera, Nissanka, and Mendis have passed their tests and obtained NOCs. However, Thushara’s eligibility for an NOC is pending the outcome of his Physical Performance Test.
Hasaranga, Malinga, and Pathirana are still undergoing rehabilitation for injuries and have not yet undergone the Physical Performance Test. They will do so after completing their recovery programs. Chameera and Nissanka are set to play for Delhi Capitals, while Mendis will join Sunrisers Hyderabad. Pathirana, who will represent Kolkata Knight Riders, was sidelined due to a hamstring injury during the 2026 Men’s T20 World Cup.
SLC has announced that players seeking to participate in IPL 2026 will only receive an NOC after passing the mandatory Physical Performance Test. Currently, SLC is conducting an eight-week specialized physical training program for all nationally contracted players to enhance their physical performance standards for upcoming international matches. The players are also undergoing routine physical performance tests to assess their fitness levels.
