Sri Lanka Cricket President Shammi Silva, aged 65, has stepped down from his position, along with the board’s executive committee. The resignations have been officially conveyed to Sri Lanka President Anura Kumara Dissanayake. Silva, who had been serving as SLC President since 2019, faced criticism over the national men’s team’s performance and management issues.
The decision to resign was announced by the Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) in a statement on Wednesday. Silva’s resignation follows the team’s failure to advance to the Super Eights stage of the recent T20 World Cup, which Sri Lanka co-hosted with India. He had previously been removed as SLC chief in 2023 after a disappointing ODI World Cup campaign, leading to a suspension of the board by the ICC.
Silva, who also held the position of President of the Asian Cricket Council in 2025, took over from Jay Shah. The Sri Lankan Sports Law of 1973 allows the minister to dissolve sports federations, though this contradicts the International Cricket Council’s charter. The ICC has been informed about the developments, but the timeline for new elections remains uncertain.
