Sri Lanka has made alterations to their squad for the upcoming ICC Women’s T20 World Cup. Notably, Vishmi Gunarathne, Shashini Gimhani, and Kawya Kavindi have been brought back, while experienced spinner Inoka Ranaweera has been omitted from the team. Inoka, with 91 T20Is under her belt, was left out despite her good performances against the West Indies in March.
Vishmi, who has played 54 T20Is, has been struggling since the 2024 Women’s T20 World Cup. The Sri Lankan team will be looking for her, along with wrist spinner Shashini and seamer Kawya, to find their best form in the upcoming tournament. Additionally, newcomers like Imesha Dulani, Hansima Karunarathne, and others are set to make their debut at the Women’s T20 World Cup.
Led by veteran Chamari Athapaththu, Sri Lanka will kick off their campaign against England on June 12. The team will then face New Zealand, West Indies, Ireland, and Scotland in the group stage matches. The squad is scheduled to depart for England on June 3 for the tournament.
