Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake expressed gratitude to India for promptly providing 38,000 metric tons of fuel to Colombo. He mentioned that India’s quick response followed his discussion with Prime Minister Narendra Modi about Sri Lanka’s fuel supply issues due to the Middle East conflict. President Dissanayake also appreciated the coordination by India’s External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar.
In a recent phone call on March 24, President Dissanayake and PM Modi talked about the situation in West Asia, focusing on disruptions affecting global energy security. They reviewed efforts to strengthen energy cooperation between the two countries and enhance regional security. PM Modi emphasized the commitment to working closely with Sri Lanka to address mutual challenges.
The conflict in West Asia has heightened concerns about regional stability and global energy markets, especially regarding the strategic Strait of Hormuz, a crucial oil transit route. External Affairs Minister Jaishankar also discussed the West Asia conflict’s implications with his Sri Lankan counterpart Vijitha Herath in a recent conversation. India reiterated its commitment to its “Neighbourhood First” policy and “Vision MAHASAGAR.”
