The Sri Rama Sene in Karnataka has announced its intention to distribute saffron shawls to students in schools and colleges starting June 1. This move comes in protest against the state government’s decision to permit hijabs and limited religious symbols while excluding saffron shawls. Sri Rama Sene’s chief, Pramod Muthalik, strongly opposes the allowance of hijabs and other religious symbols in educational institutions.
The organization accuses the Congress government of overturning a previous BJP government notification on the issue. Muthalik criticized the government for permitting hijabs, arguing that uniforms were introduced to promote equality among students and prevent discrimination. He expressed concerns that allowing hijabs could lead to conflicts and communal tensions in the state.
Muthalik also raised objections regarding cow slaughter and beef exports, urging action from the Union Home Ministry and Animal Husbandry Department. He highlighted the discrepancy between worshipping cows and exporting beef, emphasizing the need for a consistent approach. Sri Rama Sene threatened to stage a significant protest against the Central government over this issue.
The controversy surrounding hijabs and saffron shawls in Karnataka has attracted attention from various groups, including the Vishwa Hindu Parishad. The situation remains tense as authorities monitor developments to prevent any potential disruptions to law and order. The upcoming reopening of schools and colleges on June 1 is expected to further escalate tensions surrounding this issue.
