In a significant development along the India-Nepal border, the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) apprehended two women from Uzbekistan who were residing illegally in India and trying to cross into Nepal through the Raxaul border in Bihar’s East Champaran district. The women, identified as Makhfuza Dekhkonova (32) and Maftuna Kilicheva (35) from Uzbekistan, were found without valid immigration or residency documents during routine border checking operations near the Maitri Bridge at Custom Chowk.
An SSB team at the Raxaul border noticed the two foreign nationals behaving suspiciously while attempting to cross from India into Nepal. Upon questioning, it was discovered that the women, citizens of Uzbekistan, lacked the necessary documents authorizing their stay in India. The SSB handed them over to the Haraiya police station for further investigation to determine the circumstances of their entry into India, the duration of their stay, and the purpose of their journey to Nepal.
Authorities are scrutinizing the passports and other documents recovered from the women to ascertain if their stay in India exceeded the validity of their visas. While the case is being investigated for potential links to organized illegal migration or international networks, no such connections have been confirmed yet. The sensitive India-Nepal border in the Raxaul sector sees regular surveillance and checking operations by security agencies to curb smuggling, illegal border crossings, and unauthorized movements.
