The State Election Commission in Rajasthan has confirmed the voting setup for the upcoming polls for Panchayati Raj Institutions. Commissioner Rajeshwar Singh disclosed that Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) will be utilized for Zila Parishads and Panchayat Samitis elections, while traditional ballot papers and boxes will be used for Sarpanchs and Ward Panchs of Gram Panchayats. This decision aims to ensure a straightforward and transparent electoral process statewide.

Singh highlighted that the choice of a mixed voting system was made to address logistical, administrative, and practical considerations at various rural governance levels. The voting approach aligns with Rule 35 of the Rajasthan Panchayati Raj (Election) Rules, 1994, allowing the use of both EVMs and ballot papers in Panchayati Raj elections. The State Election Commission holds the authority to determine the voting method based on existing circumstances and administrative feasibility.

Under the current legal framework, the State Election Commission is empowered to define the voting process. The primary goal is to conduct elections that are unbiased, efficient, and transparent, ensuring maximum transparency. District election officers, returning officers, and polling personnel have been directed to complete all necessary preparations following the prescribed procedures and timelines.

Training sessions for election staff, deployment of voting equipment, and logistical arrangements are being coordinated to facilitate the smooth running of the polls. Officials are also focused on enhancing voter awareness and accessibility, especially in remote rural areas, to boost participation in the democratic process. Panchayati Raj elections play a vital role in grassroots democracy, determining leadership at village, block, and district levels.

The Commission reaffirmed its dedication to maintaining electoral integrity and ensuring a peaceful and transparent election process. Further information on the election timetable, model code of conduct, and voter assistance measures will be disclosed in the near future.
