Days after Dr. Anjan Adhikari was removed from his position as Superintendent of Calcutta Medical College and Hospital, the state health department has directed him to undergo a departmental inquiry due to various allegations of negligence. A senior government official confirmed that the order was issued recently.
Dr. Adhikari, who is now working at Raiganj Government Medical College and Hospital in North Bengal, faced accusations of serious negligence and administrative lapses while serving at Calcutta Medical College and Hospital. The government’s decision to initiate a departmental inquiry follows these allegations.
Troubles continue for Dr. Adhikari as the departmental inquiry order adds to the challenges he is currently facing. The former Superintendent was recently transferred to Raiganj Government Medical College and Hospital after being relieved of his duties at Calcutta Medical College and Hospital.
Calcutta Medical College and Hospital, established in 1835 by Lord William Bentinck, is the oldest medical college and hospital in India. The recent actions against Dr. Adhikari come amidst efforts by the state government to address issues within the healthcare system following the Assembly elections.
