A ‘Millet Mahotsav and Natural Farmer Market’ is set to happen in 16 municipal corporations across Gujarat on March 21 and 22. The main event will be at the Sabarmati Riverfront in Ahmedabad. Organized by the Gujarat Agro Industries Corporation, the two-day event aims to promote millets and support Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Shree Anna’ campaign.
Ministers and dignitaries are expected to participate in events across various cities. The festival, themed “Earth’s Gold — Adopt Shree Anna, Attain a Healthy Life,” will feature 85 stalls in Ahmedabad and a total of 620 stalls in other cities. These stalls will be provided free of cost to farmer groups and individual cultivators.
The initiative enables farmers to directly sell millet products to consumers, bypassing intermediaries for better prices. The event will showcase millet exhibitions, food festivals, an agri-technology zone, and stalls by agri-startups and women entrepreneurs. Visitors can purchase millet-based products and sample dishes made from millets.
Millet crops, known for requiring less water and being cultivable without chemical fertilizers, align well with natural farming practices. The state government, led by Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, aims to boost farmers’ incomes through promoting natural farming practices.
