A statewide enforcement drive named ‘Operation Delta Hunt’ resulted in the detention of 501 individuals believed to be illegal Bangladeshi nationals across Gujarat. The coordinated action took place simultaneously in various districts as part of efforts to verify and identify suspected undocumented foreign residents in the state.
Police teams, including district units, crime branch personnel, cyber cells, and special operations groups, conducted checks at residential areas, labor sites, and other locations based on intelligence inputs. This operation is a component of a broader security and immigration enforcement strategy being implemented in Gujarat.
Authorities mentioned that the operation involves telecom data analysis, human intelligence, and document verification to identify individuals suspected of residing illegally. Earlier phases of the operation had already screened thousands of individuals, leading to the detention of several hundred after verification.
Deputy Chief Minister and Home Minister Harsh Sanghavi characterized the initiative as an intelligence-led exercise that involves coordinated action across police units. The aim of such operations is to identify undocumented residents and investigate potential facilitation networks that may involve forged documentation, accommodation, and employment support.
Police investigations in previous phases also involved examining identity documents, with some cases showing suspected use of forged or fraudulently obtained Aadhaar records. The enforcement effort is part of ongoing state-level actions against illegal immigration, with earlier phases of Operation Delta Hunt resulting in detentions and screening operations in cities like Ahmedabad, Surat, and Rajkot.
