A student at Scottish Church College in north Kolkata passed away in unusual circumstances, with the police awaiting the autopsy report to determine the cause of death. The student fell ill at the college hostel a week ago and was later found unconscious before being taken to the hospital.
The deceased student, identified as Rishita Banik, was a third-year Political Science student at Scottish Church College and hailed from Tripura. On January 24, the student’s mother, unable to reach her daughter, contacted Rishita’s roommate, leading to the discovery of Rishita in an unconscious state in the hostel’s sick room.
Following the incident, Rishita was rushed to Calcutta Medical College and Hospital, where she was admitted to the ICU but unfortunately succumbed during treatment. The Barasat police station initiated an investigation into the student’s unnatural death, with the body undergoing a post-mortem examination to ascertain the exact cause of death. Traces of a poisonous substance have been detected in the deceased’s stomach, pending confirmation in the final post-mortem report.
The police revealed that Rishita, feeling unwell, returned to the hostel on January 23 and sought medical attention in the sick room, where she was later found unconscious. Authorities are probing the circumstances surrounding the student’s demise, with a senior officer from Kolkata Police stating that a case of unnatural death has been registered, awaiting the conclusive post-mortem report.
