A 42-year-old student-led National Citizen Party (NCP) leader, Mohammad Motaleb Sikder, was shot by miscreants in Khulna, Bangladesh. The incident occurred near Gazi Medical College Hospital in the Sonadanga area of the city. Motaleb, who serves as the Khulna divisional chief of NCP, remains in critical condition after being taken to Khulna Medical College Hospital and City Diagnostic Centre for a CT scan. The NCP was preparing for a divisional labour rally in Khulna, with Motaleb overseeing the arrangements. The police are currently investigating the incident.
This shooting comes shortly after the attack on Sharif Osman Hadi, a radical Islamist leader, on December 12 in Dhaka. Hadi, a candidate for the Dhaka-8 parliamentary constituency, was critically injured in the shooting and later succumbed to his injuries in Singapore General Hospital.
