A student organization in Quetta strongly criticized Pakistan’s decision to eliminate Balochi and Brahui language programs from radio broadcasts under the ‘Balochistan Digital Policy 2026’. The Baloch Students Action Committee (BSAC) denounced the move as an attempt to eradicate the languages of the Baloch community. The BSAC highlighted that Balochi and Brahui, the major languages in Balochistan, are already at risk of extinction due to lack of promotion and preservation efforts.
The student body accused the government of neglecting the development of mother tongues, contrasting it with global practices of promoting native languages for educational and literary purposes. They emphasized that the government’s actions threaten the Baloch nation’s identity by restricting the use of Balochi and Brahui languages. The BSAC expressed concerns over an alleged conspiracy to shut down language departments at the University of Balochistan, further endangering linguistic diversity in the region.
According to the BSAC, the recent decision to terminate Balochi and Brahui language programs on Radio Pakistan as part of the ‘Balochistan Digital Policy 2026’ signifies a deliberate attempt to erase cultural heritage. The student organization argued that such measures not only undermine the Baloch people’s identity but also pose a threat to their existence. They called for an immediate review and withdrawal of these actions, denouncing them as exploitative and unjust towards native languages.
