Four students at a government girls’ middle school in Nirmali, Bihar, became unwell after the morning assembly on Saturday, with one needing hospitalization. The incident occurred amidst high temperatures and humidity in the region. The students reported feelings of dizziness, weakness, and anxiety right after the morning prayer assembly ended, causing concern among teachers and peers.
School authorities provided immediate first aid to the affected students and moved them to a well-ventilated area. One student with a more severe condition was taken to a nearby nursing home for medical care, while the other three recovered after receiving initial aid, rest, and hydration at the school. The school’s headmaster mentioned that the assembly proceeded as usual that morning, and the students fell ill as classes were about to begin.
The news of the incident spread quickly, leading worried parents to visit both the school and the nursing home. Doctors reported that the hospitalized student responded well to treatment and is now stable and out of danger. Initial assessments by medical professionals and school authorities suggest that the extreme heat and humidity in the area may have caused the students’ illnesses, although further examination is needed to confirm the exact cause.
Following the episode, the school administration has instructed teachers to be vigilant about students’ health and ensure the availability of safe drinking water and other preventive measures during periods of intense heat.
