Hundreds of students at a technological institute in Kanpur protested following the death of a final-year BCA student in a collision with a JCB machine. The students gathered at the Pranveer Singh Institute of Technology, demanding justice and causing a tense situation on campus, leading to heavy police deployment.
The deceased student, identified as Prakhar Singh from Ratanlal Nagar, suffered severe injuries when his bike collided with a JCB during construction work on campus. Despite receiving treatment, he tragically passed away. In response to his death, students assembled on campus, chanting slogans, which escalated into chaos with reports of property damage.
Allegations surfaced from students claiming the accident was a result of inadequate safety measures during campus construction activities. However, the college administration countered, stating the incident occurred outside the campus premises. Tensions rose between students and police, with minor altercations reported during the confrontation.
Amid the unrest, demands from students regarding attendance rules and timings were acknowledged by the college administration. Police presence was heightened to address the situation, as confirmed by SDM Sadar Anubhav Singh. DCP West S.M.
