A 70-year-old man has been arrested in Tripura for allegedly raping and murdering his 16-year-old granddaughter. The incident took place in Chandanmura village under Sonamura subdivision in Sepahijala district. The victim, a Class 10 student, was found dead at their residence, leading to the man’s arrest.
Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha has urged the police to ensure the accused faces the harshest punishment. The Chief Minister expressed deep sorrow over the incident and emphasized the need for a thorough investigation to bring the culprits to justice.
The victim had been living with her grandparents as her father, who works in Bengaluru, had remarried after his wife’s death. Allegedly, the victim was sexually abused by her grandfather. The police have initiated an investigation into the case, with the victim’s father filing a complaint.
Bapi Das, the victim’s father, has demanded capital punishment for the accused, along with other local residents. The community seeks a strong message against such heinous crimes. The police are awaiting the post-mortem report, expected to provide more details on the tragic incident.
