Actress and singer Suchitra Krishnamoorthi has clarified that her recent remarks were directed at author Chetan Bhagat in connection with the ongoing discussions on the Lohagad Fort murder case. The controversy arose after Bhagat suggested that societal and parental pressures related to arranged marriages should be considered alongside the crime. This viewpoint faced backlash on social media for seemingly downplaying the actions of the accused.
Responding to a user who questioned if her comments were aimed at author Shobhaa De, Krishnamoorthi confirmed that it was indeed Chetan Bhagat who she was referring to. Earlier, she had criticized an ‘Indian author’ for justifying the behavior of Siya Goyal, one of the accused in the Lohagad murder case. She emphasized that no cultural norms could excuse criminal actions and stressed the need for society to acknowledge the facts accurately.
The case revolves around the tragic death of Ketan Agarwal, who fell from Lohagad Fort during a trek and later investigations pointed to a planned incident involving his fiancee, Siya Goyal, and her alleged lover, Chetan Chaudhary. Both Goyal and Chaudhary have been taken into custody as the inquiry progresses. Suchitra Krishnamoorthi’s interventions in the debate underscore the importance of addressing criminal behavior without justifying it under any circumstances.
