Two-time Paralympic gold medalist Sumit Antil broke his own World Record in the Men’s Javelin F64 category at the 8th Indian Open International Para Athletics Championships 2026 in Bengaluru. Antil achieved a remarkable throw of 74.82m, surpassing his previous record of 73.29m set at the 2022 Asian Para Games in Hangzhou.
Representing Haryana, Sumit Antil’s outstanding performance secured him the gold medal, showcasing his dominance in the national para-athletics arena. Sandip Sargar from Maharashtra claimed silver with a throw of 62.88m, while Sandeep from Rajasthan took the bronze with 61.83m.
The competition also witnessed impressive displays in various track and field events. Paralympic medallist Praveen Kumar won gold in the Men’s High Jump T64 by clearing 2.00m, with Varun Singh Bhati securing silver at 1.84m. Tokyo Paralympic gold medalist Deepthi Jeevanji excelled in the Women’s 400m T20, finishing first with a time of 57.84 seconds.
In the Men’s Javelin Throw F46, Rinku from Haryana emerged victorious with a throw of 61.70m, followed closely by Ajeet Singh and Ravi Kumar from Uttar Pradesh. The championship also featured a competitive Men’s High Jump T63/T42 event with renowned para athletes Mariyappan Thangavelu and Shailesh Kumar participating alongside international contenders.
Haryana continued its strong performance in field events, with Haney winning the Men’s Javelin Throw F37/F38 title and Pranav Soorma claiming gold in Men’s Club Throw F51. Among female athletes, Nimisha Chakkungal from Gujarat secured gold in Women’s Long Jump T47 with a jump of 5.43m, while Bhavanaben Ajab Chaudhary won the Women’s Javelin Throw F46 title with 37.01m.
The ongoing championship in Bengaluru, held from May 26 to 28, has brought together top para athletes from India and abroad, serving as a vital platform for upcoming international competitions.
