Sunetra Pawar, previously a noted conservationist, has now assumed the role of Maharashtra’s first female deputy chief minister. Married to former deputy chief minister and NCP leader Ajit Pawar, she is currently a Rajya Sabha member and will continue in this position until she moves to another house. Her presence has had a significant impact on Ajit Pawar’s political journey, even though she was not directly involved in decision-making.
Sunetra Pawar faces the task of taking charge of administrative responsibilities and guiding the party through the current challenges following Ajit Pawar’s sudden demise. She is entrusted with maintaining party cohesion, especially amidst merger discussions with NCP SP, as no major elections are scheduled in the near future, with state assembly elections set for November 2029. Known affectionately as Vahini, she must swiftly adapt to her new role as the state legislature’s budget session commences on February 23.
