After the Baramati Assembly by-election, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister and NCP President Sunetra Pawar thanked the people and supporters for their participation. The election, held due to the passing of former Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, witnessed a significant voter turnout to decide the fate of the constituency. According to the Election Commission of India, the voting percentage stood at 52.48% by 5 p.m., with final figures expected later in the evening.
Sunetra Pawar, in her statement, viewed the voting as a tribute to her late husband Ajit Pawar’s memory. She acknowledged the residents of Baramati, referring to them as “Baramatikars,” for their enduring affection and confidence in Ajit Pawar’s work. Describing the day’s voting as more than a political act, she emphasized that it symbolized a heartfelt homage to Ajit Pawar’s dedication to Baramati and its people.
In a rare display of unity, Sunetra Pawar extended her gratitude to both the Mahayuti alliance (BJP, NCP, and Shiv Sena) and the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) along with various social organizations. Noteworthy events preceding the election included the decision of NCP-SP to support Sunetra Pawar’s candidacy and the withdrawal of the Congress candidate, paving the way for a smooth contest. Sunetra Pawar commended the election officials, police, and party workers for their efforts in ensuring a fair and orderly polling process.
The Baramati Assembly constituency, with 3.84 lakh registered voters, witnessed the participation of 23 candidates, including Sunetra Pawar. Despite the withdrawal of key opposition parties, Sunetra Pawar emerged as the frontrunner to uphold the Pawar legacy in the state Assembly. The results of the Baramati by-election are set to be officially declared on May 4.
