2016 champions Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) will see their designated captain, Pat Cummins, make his debut in the Indian Premier League (IPL) against Rajasthan Royals (RR) at Sawai Mansingh Stadium. Cummins, who arrived in India before the season, had to undergo a back scan in Australia following SRH’s win over Kolkata Knight Riders on April 2.
Having cleared the fitness test, the Australian Test captain expressed his excitement for the upcoming match against Rajasthan Royals. Cummins, who last played during the Ashes series against England, missed the ICC T20 World Cup 2026. In his absence, SRH found success with debutant fast bowlers Praful Hinge and Sakib Hussain, who both impressed against RR earlier.
Cummins will resume the captaincy from Ishan Kishan, leading SRH to four wins out of seven matches and securing the fourth spot in the points table with a positive net run rate. Dilshan Madhushanka is likely to make way for Cummins in the playing XI, with Travis Head, Heinrich Klassen, and Eshan Malinga as the other overseas players.
