Appreciating the work, the Supreme Court has appointed retired Madras High Court Judge Rajendran as a mediator in a dispute concerning a landowner and a gas crematorium at the Isha Yoga Center in Coimbatore. The court suggested an amicable settlement between the parties regarding the petitioner’s adjoining land, emphasizing the importance of negotiation. Chief Justice Surya Kant praised Isha’s service as “pious work” during the proceedings.

In response to a Special Leave Petition, the Supreme Court revisited a case involving a modern gas crematorium at the Isha Yoga Center, which was previously dismissed by the Madras High Court. The court proposed the mediation of an arrangement for alternative land for the petitioner, aiming for a smooth resolution through discussions. The construction of the gasifier crematorium was found to be in compliance with regulations and serving the public interest, leading to the dismissal of the case.

The Isha Foundation, known for its noble objective of providing ‘Dignity in Death,’ has been operating and maintaining crematoriums across Tamil Nadu since 2010. With a service-oriented approach, Isha ensures a serene environment at its crematoriums, offering free cremation services for economically disadvantaged families in collaboration with the Tamil Nadu Government.
