The Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) strongly denounced the killing of senior advocate Khaja Moizuddin in Hyderabad, labeling it a “planned, brutal and shocking murder” and an attack on the justice system. The SCBA expressed deep concern over the safety of advocates while performing their duties, emphasizing that violence against legal professionals undermines the rule of law. The association extended condolences to Moizuddin’s family and called for a prompt and thorough investigation to ensure justice for the perpetrators.
Moizuddin, a seasoned advocate with over three decades of practice in the Telangana High Court and City Civil Court, was reportedly targeted and fatally injured in an incident in Hyderabad’s Masab Tank area on May 23. Initially considered a hit-and-run, the case was later reclassified as murder with suspected ties to disputes over Waqf land following a complaint by the family and scrutiny of CCTV footage. Law enforcement revealed that the assailants, using an unregistered SUV, had surveilled the advocate’s residence for three days before the assault.
The victim’s son, Farhan, also a lawyer, disclosed that his father had faced threats from individuals associated with alleged Waqf land encroachments and had previously encountered multiple attacks. The Telangana High Court Advocates’ Association demanded the formation of a special investigation team to identify and prosecute the culprits. AIMIM President and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi joined the chorus of condemnation, urging the arrest of the primary orchestrators and perpetrators behind the murder.
