The Supreme Court Collegium has recommended the appointment of Justice Sujoy Paul as the Chief Justice of the Calcutta High Court. Justice Paul, currently a judge at the Calcutta High Court, has been serving as the Acting Chief Justice since October 2025. He was originally a judge at the Madhya Pradesh High Court before being transferred to the Telangana High Court in March 2024.
Born on June 21, 1964, Justice Sujoy Paul completed his education at Pandit L.S. Jha Model Higher Secondary School and Rani Durgavati University in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh. He began his legal career in 1990 and practiced in various branches of law before being elevated as a judge at the Madhya Pradesh High Court in 2011.
In January 2025, Justice Paul was appointed as the Acting Chief Justice of the Telangana High Court. Following a recommendation by the Supreme Court Collegium, he was transferred to the Calcutta High Court and appointed as a judge in July 2025. His journey to becoming the Chief Justice of the Calcutta High Court has seen various appointments and transfers within the Indian judiciary system.
