The Supreme Court strongly criticized the spread of fake social media posts that falsely linked statements to Chief Justice of India (CJI) Surya Kant, calling it malicious and damaging to public trust in the judiciary. The Office of the CJI denounced certain posts on social media platforms that inaccurately attributed remarks to the CJI, particularly citing an account @UnreservedMERIT on X (formerly Twitter) for sharing a misleading graphic. The fabricated quote in Hindi wrongly attributed to the CJI insinuated societal responsibility for exploitation despite producing high-ranking officials like IAS, IPS, CJI, President, and PM.
The Office of the CJI clarified that the attributed comments were entirely unfounded, malicious, and blatantly untrue. It strongly condemned the act as vile, brazen, and mischievous, emphasizing that creating a fake quote and linking it to the highest judicial office displays dishonesty, incitement, and disrespect for constitutional principles. The statement highlighted that such behavior undermines public trust in the justice system and the rule of law, urging restraint and calling on citizens, media outlets, and social media platforms to avoid spreading unverified or deceptive content.
